This app is fun and easy to use. I used it to prepare for my Part 121 Aircraft Certification (DX exam) that covers HSI

One feature that would be nice is Holdings for example 1NM from station. That way you don’t have the flip flag for example
Easy and helpful, allows creating custom scenarios and get the idea of ‘the big picture ‘ . PS; they have great after sales response. I was having trouble with an app and emailed the creators, they fixed it with an update within days!
The random placement makes no sense. In what world would I intercept the 264 radial inbound if I was EAST of the station? I have to open the map almost every time and reposition so I can intercept under 90 degrees
This is a great way to train your brain to quickly visualize the needles. I’m using this to exercise VOR nav skills in quick 5 minute breaks. Beats social media and cheaper than burning fuel. What it can’t simulate is the task saturation that you can experience in the cockpit. With that, this app is perfect with what it aims to exercise and will hopefully help reduce that workload saturation.
I’ll be recommending for my IR students
But very helpful, must have to learn HSI
Great app to easily & cheaply! practice intercepts & holds.
Great tool to help learn, practice, and visually understand VOR navigation and holds. A must have for students and even seasoned pilots!
There are a lot of training apps out there and unfortunately I’ve purchased my fair share. In my opinion this is the one I come back to you most often. It’s easy to use, but it definitely challenges you so you can calibrate your brain to interpret the needles. The author has done an excellent job with this app. I would echo other comments that it would be great to see even more scenarios. Money well spent.
It’s excellent. Requires some patienc i you are hsi expert but it teaches well. You will get the hang of it. More videos from Kaarsten would be a bonus. I think the blue arrow on the ehsi points to the vor ?
Where is the common VOR nav receiver? Would be great to have this along side the HSI so that aspiring pilots can practice with the instrument that is more frequently found in trainer aircraft? (More so than an RMI) Otherwise, nicely done.
I’m looking for an app or something relatively cheap to help me dial in my holding skills. And I am learning all my instrument holding training on a VOR and heading indicator instrument (basic 6 pack). I wish this app had an option to do just that instead of an HSI that I do not know how to use because my aircraft doesn’t have an HSI. And also custom or randomized ATC hold instructions instead of just published, even though you can customize them a little bit but it’s always a published hold.
Good, but the To From indicator sometimes does not work
I am new student pilot, and even though am far from my instrument rating,I like to be ahead of things, and getting to know the instruments and know how they operate is a must. this app has giving me confidence for when my training on VOR navigation comes, I would have a better understanding and would save money on flying hours. Thanks to all the developers involve people like me really appreciate what you do to heal out.
Getting prepped for my instrument ticket and this is proving very helpful
This app excellent! I don’t need to book a practice sim and waste setup time just to practice holdings and arc/course intercepts. I can just hop on this app when I have free time and practice on my own. I made an in-app purchase for the EHSI to practice for my T-6A sims. If you’re a visual learner like me and are having trouble grasping instrument concepts, this app is a must!
Thank you. This has been an excellent learning aide and refresher. I can’t imagine how much air work this has avoided. Update: I don’t think I have ever added an update to a review. This app is so helpful. I’m now doing my multi engine and will do an IPC. This great for getting back up to speed without setting foot in the airplane. My only wish is that the developers add more features. Like full approaches, including an ILS. Best software purchase I have ever made. Sincere thanks.
I am working to regain my IFR currency and can’t remember ever being asked to do a serious VOR intercept. It took me a while to get the hang of it and the YouTube video by Plane Overhead helped a lot. Once the visualization kicks in you’re on your way. It’s probably the best money I have ever spent on a training item that pilot’s are suckers for. My ONLY small criticism is that some of the random intercepts would never happen in real life and can cause some frustration until understood. The older plane I fly does not have an RMI so I wonder if I will be able to do the mental math to compute the intercept angles but at least I will have a fighting chance. ATC is usually easy to get along with.
Getting IFR training. This simple app is amazing. With simple controls, I can intercept VOR headings, and practice hold patterns wherever I have a few minutes. Saves me a lot of fuel and instructor time.
This is the first app review I’ve ever written. I was having a lot of trouble learning holds and working them out on the sim in kind of a pain. This app is perfect. When I get my CFII I will be encouraging all of my students to invest. One thing I haven’t quite figured out Is why you briefly lose the VOR when on top of it. Perhaps that could be fixed so we just see a to/from switch.
This app is simply excellent! If you have a few free minutes you can study and improve your VOR skills. The app simplifies things for example you only worry about two dimensions and there’s only standard rate turns which allow you to focus on what actually matters without distraction. I used to use x plane to practice but this app lets you practice on your mobile device and in short time slots this increasing your knowledge.
Really love the app. Wish that rather than visualizations for holds and dme arcs that it would have the option to give written instructions similar to how ATC would tell you. For instance “hold north on the 16 dme of the XYZ VOR on the 350 radial”. I feel the visualizations give me too much help.
Have just discovered this fine little app and I have not been able to put down the IPad for a couple of days now! Still trying to figure everything out, but after watching the videos on YT I have made great progress. Thanks to the maker of this app!
Very simple and intelligent tool for learning VOR procedures
A point to point addition (one point in a radial to a point on another) would be super helpful, but this app is phenomenal for picking up the basics. Totally worth the price!
Very good app.
This is a nice way to practice VOR navigation without all the setup of a flight sim. I really like the way the authors built the app and it is helping me get my head back in the game before applying to the airlines after a few years of not flying. I would ask for the ability to do user-defined patterns, and patterns away from the VOR on a radial/DME where I have to do a fix-to-fix as well as determine entry method. If you add those things it will really be almost perfect. I also notice that even when I've corrected to a perfect 1:00 inbound leg and am turning a standard rate turn to perfectly align with the inbound leg, the map shows my pattern as wide and long. Please adjust the holding pattern depiction to show the aircraft remaining within the protected airspace if I am flying within the AIM limits. Other than those desires this I really a helpful app!
App freezes every time I open it, won't respond to any input. Not worth 10 dollars
Great app, very well executed. Add a CDI option and I will buy it again so I can use it to train flight students.
This app is great for practicing arcing, holding, and intercepting. Sometimes the intercepts they give you aren't started in the correct location. But it still offers a great way to learn and practice your skills. I wish they would have some practice/missed approaches or point to points, maybe have a few low enroute charts that you could practice on. Great app, highly recommend.
It exceeded all of my expectations....... Very friendly user, great app. I hope they can incorporate approach procedures in a near future to this app.
This app exceeded my expectations by far! It is very nicely designed and so far I have not found any bugs. Lots of functions and details available as described. VOR Tracker has really made my IR training quite easy and I highly recommend it. The EHSI is a must.
Very nice app with lots of useful functions. Works as advertised - I highly recommend it for initial IFR training and as preparation for simulator assessments!
Frozen App ! Deleged and loaded, still frozen 😣
Title says it all...good training tool / app.
Appreciate the effort to make a tool for people who are learning about instrument procedure, but all I just did is spent money on something what didn't help at all.
Super app for vor mind trainin.
Helps to learn how to navigate and visualize yourself with a VOR.
How do I get my money back?!?!?! This thing is garbage. It's useless and more confusing to use than an actual instrument flight. I want a refund!!
One addition that would be useful is for the app to let the user know when the task was completed successfully.
Nice, useful app
Great app for practicing IFR course interception and holds!
This app does exactly what the developer says it does. It is simple and efficient to use and fulfills its purpose. It works well as a tool to practice and review VOR holdings and tracking, can be useful when a PC is not around.
Crack open a book and learn about VORs, intercepts, and holding patterns, first. If you don't know the academics then you will be lost even with a working VOR. This app will cement the concepts! Perfect for the IFR student pilot and the seasoned IFR pilot. Better than any stupid mind numbing game you might being playing, now. You could be honing your pilot skills with this app instead. Might be one of the better aviation app I have purchased.
Complete waste of $7.99
